Background and Rationale
Over the past two years, the Performers Rights Society of the Philippines (PRSP) has accelerated its efforts on making its presence in the performing arts industry through the following initiatives:
1.Institutional capacity-building through staff training and re-orientation and funds sourcing for program development. Among the concrete steps toward this direction is the participation of its Acting Managing Director in the WIPO-sponsored Training on Music Industry Collective Management held in Japan in 2007; the participation of several staff in IPO Philippines-convened fora and strategic planning workshops on collective management; and the OPM-sourced OP-PSF grant for the second phase of the Database Building on the Registry of Filipino Performing Artists particularly on the music industry.
2.Organizational membership drive to widen the base of artist-members through several campaigns including the Sign Up for Your Rights Artists’ Fellowship held at the Teatrino in 2008 and several representations with individual artists belonging to the film and television sector; and
3.Organizational networking with allied organizations and institutions such as the FILSCAP and the IPO Philippines, as well as representation through formal correspondence with legislators known to be allied with the PRSP cause such as artists In the Senate of the Philippines.
