Regine Velasquez, popularly known as Asia's Songbird, was born on April 22, 1970. Her first attempts at singing success bore mixed results, some were lost, some won. That was before she entered the popular national TV singing contest Bagong Kampeon, where she copped the Grand Prize. Octoarts took notice of her singing prowess and signed her as a contract star, starting what was to be a hugely successful career that etched a considerable mark in recent Pinoy music history. In 1989, she represented the country at the Asia Pacific Singing Competition in Hongkong and won the grand prize. Known for her ability to reach high pitches with grace and ease, Regine even made waves in the Asian music scene, releasing three album that reached multi-platinum success. Her two night concert at the Araneta Coliseum entitled R2K in 2000 was sold out, a feat that arguably made her the Concert Queen. Not only was she successful in music, but in movies as well, after recently being named Box-Office Queen for her most successful movie Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon.
