The Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society has gone on with a lot of changes through their 30 years of existence, changing their names a few times, and trimming their members. The present three-member group of Boboy Garovillo, Jim Paredes and Danny Javier, were formerly joined by Butch Dans, Lito de Joya, Gus Cosio, Renato Garcia, Chito Kintanar, Sonny Santiago and Kenny Barton, during their early days entertaining on campuses. Turning professional in 1974, the group started on what would be regarded as a very colorful career that would forever change the course of Philippine music history. Their easy ballads, novelty songs, and even protest songs, with their colloquial and often politically relevant lyrics were easily received by the masses, often being used for the current mass protest actions during their career, and going as far as staging controversial concerts that convey their disgust over the Ninoy Aquino assassination. Among their hit songs include Pumapatak Ang Ulan, Ewan, and Mahirap Magmahal Ng Syota Ng Iba. In 1989, they won Best Group at the Awit Awards.
